I agree — and I think there’s some nuance to niches. On one hand, finding a niche and being great at it is a good way to get paid and make a living as a freelance writer, That doesn’t mean that you can’t expand into other niches, but they probably won’t be main sources of income.

For example, I write almost exclusively in the Tech niche, and make most of my living that way. But here on Medium I write about personal development, inspirational posts, and poetry. None of that stuff earns me any money, but it makes me feel happy to write and publish it.

And who knows, if I ever get the confidence to ask for money for those niches, I could write them for a living. Except the poetry. You can never make money through poetry. I know. I tried.
